Fulani herdsmen, on Friday, again attacked the Yelewata community in the Guma LGA of Benue State, killing Mr Awosanya Shola Yekini, father of Awosanya Olushoga Tunde, a Yoruba whose family resides in the town.
It was further gathered that the father was abducted by the herdsmen while taking a refuge in a community on Friday while his body was found by some hunters on Saturday morning.
A resident of the community, who prefers anonymity said the herdsmen, after hacking the father to death removed his vital organs and dumped his body in the bush.
Our source alleged that about five officers of the Armed Forces deployed in the Yelewata area for protection were withdrawn to Makurdi without any reason, leaving the community prone to attacks.
He said, “we had earlier alerted members of the public and the concerned authorities prior to these killings that herdsmen were planning to attack the community but we got no response from anyone, not even the security operatives.
It could be recalled that recently, the herders attacked the home of Awosanya Olushoga Tunde, in Yelewata where he lost nearly the entire household.
The whereabouts of Olushoga Tunde Awosanya remains unknown till date as he was part of those declared missing in the attack.
"But his father Pa Shola Yekini Awosoga who ran to a nearby community in the Yelewata area was again attacked, he was abducted and his remains were found the second day at a bush by some hunters.
"As I speak to you now, many people are still missing… dozens injured and left without adequate medical care. Many families were locked up and burnt inside their bedrooms,” Amnesty International said in a social media post.
“This is the second time this year that armed herdsmen would invade our communities, kill our people and destroy our properties.”
Efforts by our correspondent to get the reaction of the police authorities failed as the Command Public Relations Officer did not pick his calls.
