Obafemi Owode, April 29, 2025 – The Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Ambassador Adesina 'Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, has suspended the activities of Iyaloja in Mowe Market for a period of six months. This decision follows a longstanding dispute between two factions vying for the position of Iyaloja, which led to a protest by the Association of Mowe Market Men and Women. The protest highlighted concerns over extortion and exorbitant levies imposed on traders in the market.

Amb. Ogunsola made this known during a meeting attended by top officials from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), National Orientation Agency (NOA), community and traditional chiefs, and other stakeholders, Ambassador Ogunsola emphasized the need to maintain peace and order in the market. He stated, "As the gateway to many cities and states in the Southwest, Obafemi Owode Local Government cannot afford to let matters degenerate. The installation of Iyaloja is the prerogative of traditional chiefs, and we cannot allow selfish interests to compromise the peace and security of our people."

To ensure smooth operations during the suspension period, a 7-member caretaker committee has been constituted. The committee, chaired by Chief Nurudeen Aina Alowonle, Babaloja of Mowe Market, includes:

- Chief Olusegun Adebayo (Member)
- Hon. Rasidi Adenekan (Member)

- Another member to be specified by the Chairman

The Local Government chairman also directed security agencies to monitor the situation closely and take necessary actions if anyone or group violates the suspension order. He expressed that the government has exercised patience and mediated several times to broker peace, but to no avail.
