Delta State Clinches Record Fifth Consecutive Title at Gateway Games 2024

In a resounding display of sporting prowess, Delta State has emerged victorious at the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024, held in Ogun State. The State's Athletic Teams demonstrated unparalleled excellence, securing a staggering 122 gold, 95 silver, and 105 bronze medals.

The championship win marks Delta State's fifth consecutive triumph at the National Sports Festival, solidifying its reputation as a dominant force in Nigerian sports. Bayelsa State claimed Second Position, while host State Ogun secured Third place.

The festival, which commenced on May 18, brought together thousands of athletes from across the country, competing in various events. President Bola Tinubu officially opened the games, highlighting the significance of sports in national development.

Bukola Olopade, Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, officially announced Delta State's victory during the closing ceremony. The State's triumph was attributed to the strategic investment in youth and sports development under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Onoriode Oborevwori, Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, praised the athletes, coaches, and support staff for their dedication and commitment to excellence. He emphasized that the victory was a testament to the State's MORE Agenda, which focuses on youth empowerment and sports development.

The win underscores Delta State's reputation as a breeding ground for elite athletes and reflects its sustained commitment to grassroots sports development. Enugu State has been handed the mantle to host the 23rd National Sports Festival in 2025.
