A petrol tanker caught fire on Wednesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, directly in front of the NASFAT Camp, triggering panic among motorists and residents in the area. The tanker reportedly fell while in motion and burst into flames shortly after tipping over, sending thick smoke into the sky.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as "horrible" and expressed concern over the delay in emergency responders arriving at the scene. "A tanker is burning on Lagos-Ibadan expressway just opposite NASFAT praying ground. The fire is horrible," one witness said.
As of the time of reporting, emergency responders had yet to arrive at the scene. This incident comes just days after a similar tanker explosion occurred on Monday between the Oremeji and Olorunsogo areas of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, causing significant traffic disruption.
In the earlier incident, no casualties were reported, but the fire raged for hours before being brought under control by the Oyo State Fire Service. The recent incident has raised concerns about safety measures and emergency response times on the expressway.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and authorities are expected to investigate the incident. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the area.
