A shocking incident occurred at the Government House in Kano when a drone lost control and fell on Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II's head while he was delivering a speech during a Sallah homage on Sunday. Contrary to initial reports suggesting the emir was hit with stones, the drone operator, Salim Ameenu, has come forward to explain what happened.
In a statement released on social media, Ameenu attributed the incident to a low battery that caused him to lose control of the drone. "Yesterday, I unintentionally flew my drone over His Royal Highness during his speech at Hawan Nasarawa. Due to a low battery, I lost control of the drone, and unfortunately, it fell near His Royal Highness," he said. Ameenu apologized to the emir for the unpleasant event, praising Sanusi's composure and bravery in the face of the unexpected incident.
Ameenu noted that despite the surprise, the emir simply glanced at the drone and continued his speech without hesitation, showcasing his courage and poise under pressure.
The incident comes amid ongoing tensions in Kano, where there are currently two parallel emirs – Sanusi and Aminu Ado Bayero – each occupying separate palaces. The situation has sparked a legal battle between the two, adding complexity to the state's traditional leadership dynamics.
