Traditional rulers have been charged to see themselves as fathers of all their subjects, symbols of unity, and epitomes of culture and tradition, to facilitate the realization of the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
Making the charge was the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, at the official installation and presentation of staff of office to HRH Oba Professor Amusat Titilayo Hassan as the new Elesugbon of Esugbon in Ijebu East Local Government Area, held at Obaruwa Court, Esugbon Itamogiri.
The Governor, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiu Hamzat, said the accolades greeting the declaration of Oba Professor Amusat Titilayo Hassan revealed that his appointment enjoys the overwhelming support of the people of Esugbon, and this shows that the appointment of the new Kabiesi had followed the due process prescribed by the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State, 2021.
He congratulated the good people of Esugbon community for their patience and resilience and felicitated with them for the collective interest expressed and for the continued development of the traditional institution and the community at large, which, he said, portrays them as peace-loving people who have put the interest of the community above personal interest.
The Commissioner expressed joy in the upgrade of Elesugbon from a coronet Oba to Part II status. He thereby called on the Kabiesi to see the appointment as a call to serve and expressed confidence that, from his wealth of experience, he will concentrate on the task of accelerating the pace of socio-economic development in Esugbon and Ijebu land.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde, said the installation is a landmark in the history of Ijebu East Local Government, as it affords the people of Esugbon from all walks of life to gather for the purpose of developing their domain.
The Council boss said the occasion indeed adds another feather to the upliftment of traditional institutions in Ogun State. He expressed gratitude to His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, Governor of Ogun State, for the honour bestowed on the people of Esugbon and the entire Ijebu East Local Government Area.
Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde affirmed that the presentation of staff and instrument of appointment today should be seen as a call to service and a means of mobilizing all available resources to ensure rapid socio-economic development of the Kabiesi's domain.
In his acceptance speech, the Kabiesi of Elesugbon, HRH Oba Professor Amusat Titilayo Hassan, appreciated the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiu Hamzat, for the honour done to him by upgrading his status to Part II Oba.
He appreciated the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu land, HRH Dr. Sikiru Adetona, for giving the approval for his installation. He promised to rule over his domain with humility, kindness, and integrity.
