The Chairperson of Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Hon. Surah Animashaun, has taken decisive action to address the ongoing monarchial crisis in Epe Kingdom by suspending the installation of the new Olu of Epe. The suspension comes amid claims by two individuals, Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro and Chief Iskilu Olajide Ikuforiji, to the throne following the demise of the immediate past Olu-Epe, Oba Shefiu Adewale.
In a letter addressed to the Grand Chief Imam of the community, Animashaun stated that the decision was made to forestall potential security issues and unforeseen circumstances that may arise from the followers of the two self-acclaimed monarchs. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice from the authorities.
In addition to the suspension, Animashaun also cancelled the Eid-al-Kabir celebration and Jumat prayers at the first Epe Central Mosque, Oke Balogun and and Eid Ground, citing security concerns and public health issues. The decision aims to maintain peace and stability in the community during this sensitive period.
