The Lagos State Government has shut down the Oko Oba Abattoir in Agege due to severe unhygienic practices and environmental violations. The closure aims to protect Public Health and enforce Environmental Standards.
The abattoir was found to have unacceptable levels of filth and poor waste management, also, the facility was discharging untreated effluents into nearby drains and canals, posing environmental and health risks.
The Government's decision aims to prevent the spread of diseases and protect the health and well-being of Lagosians.
The Government emphasized its commitment to enforcing environmental standards and protecting public health, and to increase monitoring of abattoirs and food-related operations and to prevent similar situations in the future.
