NULGE Condemns Assault on Imeko-Afon Local Government Officials

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ogun State has strongly condemned the recent violent attack on Officials at Imeko-Afon Local Government. The incident, which occurred over a dispute related to Sitting Allowances, has left several Officials battered and bruised. The affected Officials include the Head of Local Government and Administration(HOLGA), Alhaja Nurat Sekoni, the Director of Works and Housing, Engr. Oyeyemi Taiwo, and Director of Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, San. Akinbowale, among others.

According to eyewitnesses, eight Councilors, led by the Leader of the Legislative House, Hon. Jide Balogun, were involved in the altercation, which has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation.

The President of NULGE in Ogun State, Comr Adebayo Adefesobi Oluomo, has described the incident as unacceptable and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice. "An injury to one is an injury to all," Comr Oluomo emphasized, highlighting the Union's solidarity with the affected Officials.

Comr Oluomo noted that this incident is not an isolated case, as similar issues have occurred in Ijebu East and Remo North Local Governments, which were swept under the carpet. He emphasized that LG staff can no longer continue to suffer in silence.

The NULGE President called on the relevant authorities to take immediate action to investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. "We will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation against our members," Comr Oluomo stated. "We demand that the perpetrators be arrested and dealt with according to the law."

While condemning the incident, Comr Oluomo urged NULGE members to remain calm and composed, ensuring that the situation does not degenerate further. "We call on our members to exercise restraint and allow the law to take its course,"he said.

The NULGE in Ogun State has pledged to stand by the affected Officials and ensure that they receive the necessary support and protection. The Union has also called on the State Government to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future and protect the rights and dignity of its members.
