A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m. near the Judiciary Complex checkpoint in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Police Inspector Afolabi Adeola was fatally injured when a speeding truck loaded with 900 bags of cement crashed into him while he was on official duty.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was approaching the checkpoint at high speed and without adequate caution when it collided with a stationary FAW mini truck that had stopped in compliance with police traffic control. The impact from the crash critically injured Inspector Adeola, who was rushed to a hospital in Lagos for treatment. Despite medical intervention, including an X-ray, he succumbed to his injuries on July 1.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident and is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officers from the traffic unit visited the scene, documented the crash, and recovered both vehicles for further investigation. The suspects involved are expected to be arraigned in court.
When contacted, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, promised an official press release, but none had been shared as of the time this report was filed.
This incident highlights the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution when approaching checkpoints. The Police Command is working to ensure that justice is served in this case.
