The 22nd National Sports Festival, dubbed "Gateway Games 2024," has officially kicked off in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, with a colorful opening ceremony.

Over 10,000 athletes from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are competing in 33 sports, showcasing Nigeria's diverse cultural heritage and athletic excellence.

Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, emphasized that the festival is more than just a sporting event; it's a catalyst for establishing a vibrant sports economy in Ogun State. The state has invested heavily in upgrading sports facilities, including the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, which has been transformed into a world-class arena.

Governor Abiodun believes the festival will boost the state's economy, create jobs, and open up new opportunities for youth development.

The Games will take 14days, with Babcock University serving as the Games Village, providing accommodation for all participating athletes and officials.

33 sports will be competed across multiple venues, including the M.K.O Abiola Stadium and Alake Sports Centre, with a robust security system in place to ensure the safety and well-being of athletes, officials, and spectators.

The Gateway Games 2024 aims to promote national unity, discover emerging talents, and celebrate Nigerian sports and culture. With legendary footballer Segun Odegbami appointed as Grand Sports Ambassador, the festival is poised to leave a lasting impact on Ogun State and Nigeria's sports landscape.
