The Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun,CON, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Abeokuta Polo Club, a project aimed at promoting sports development and boosting the state's economy. The ceremony was held at the Abeokuta Polo Estate on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway.
Gov Abiodun, represented by his Deputy, Her Excellency, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, FNSE, commended the visionary and President of the Club, Dr. Sheriff Adams Abdulrahman, for the bold initiative. The Governor noted that the project aligns with his administration's agenda to make Ogun State a preferred destination for living, working, and leisure.
The Abeokuta Polo Club is expected to attract polo enthusiasts and players from around the world, boosting tourism, hospitality, and investment in Ogun State. Abiodun urged other investors to explore complementary opportunities in hospitality, infrastructure, and leisure to further elevate the sporting experience in the state.
The project is expected to create job opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and increase revenue for local businesses. His Excellency also expressed his commitment to providing an enabling environment for such ventures to flourish.
The groundbreaking ceremony coincides with the state's preparation to host the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Ogun Gateway Games 2024. Abiodun invited guests to attend the games, promising an exhilarating experience.
The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, HRM Oba Dr. Micheal Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo,CFR, Okukenu IV and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, HRH Oba Prof. Saka Ademola Matemilola,FNSE, Otileta VII, expressed their support for the project, highlighting its potential to promote sports development and economic growth in the state.
The Abeokuta Polo Club project marks a significant milestone in Ogun State's sports development and economic growth. With the support of the government and traditional institutions, the project is poised to attract international attention and investment, positioning Abeokuta as a key hub for sports and tourism in Nigeria.
Polo Novelty Match: Lisabi Triumphs Over Sodeke
A thrilling polo novelty match was also played during the programmme between Lisabi and Sodeke teams, with Lisabi emerging victorious. The match featured four chukkers and ended with Lisabi winning 3-2 against Sodeke.
The polo novelty match was an exciting display of skill and sportsmanship, highlighting the growing popularity of polo in the region. Lisabi's win marks a notable achievement, while Sodeke's performance demonstrates their potential for future competitions.
