Just in: Sheikh Gumi Barred from 2025 Hajj Pilgrimage

By Adenike Olowe

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic cleric, was deported from Saudi Arabia and barred from the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage despite having a valid visa. Saudi authorities denied him entry into Medina upon arrival.

Gumi attributed the deportation to his views on world politics, which apparently made the Saudi authorities uncomfortable with his presence during the pilgrimage.

The cleric, part of the Nigerian delegation sponsored by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for pledging to intervene in the matter.

"Thanks to the Nigerian authorities who have pledged to take up the matter immediately with Saudi authorities," he said, highlighting the value of freedom and democracy.

The Nigerian government has promised to address the issue with Saudi authorities, but further details on the diplomatic efforts are yet to be disclosed.
